Gearing Up for A Lumberjocks Picnic in August

1749 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 6 comments »

I’m so excited, Karson is on the way to see me on Friday. He left Delware Tuesday, and is in Kansas City now. He called today to work out the logistics. We had hoped that Joshua Stewart could come along for the trip, but his wife is due to have a baby today, so I think he is out, although I don’t understand his priorities ( just kidding Joshua). Kev is planning to drive up from Wichita. So, with “wife” here, me, Karson, and Kev, there will be at least 4 lumberjock...

Cedar Log

1749 days ago by Steffen | 6 comments »

Prior to moving into my house a tree was removed from the back yard. It was a cedar which was approximately 60’ tall. Some guy said he wanted the base of the trunk saved for a carving but he never came to get it. Does anyone in the Northern Cal area have a portable mill? Anyone need some large cedar logs?

"My old Friend"

1750 days ago by frank | 3 comments »

My Old Friend ....time suspends as i watch this moment, while other’s carry on with an already brisk made tea, just as i still fetch my twigs for the making of a fire, and i knowing that soon the world out there will start to clatter…. —-been days now upon this high trail, where the few that continue on with me, are oft given to fits of incessant chatter, and so i walk over behind this tree to gather my silence…. —-food runs low and water is lower, the ...

Church Doors #1: Refinishing exterior doors

1750 days ago by DocK16 | 8 comments »

Ever since I completed a few ww projects for my church I have become the go-to guy on anything wood, not that I mind. But I’ve started a project and need some help from the experienced group of LJ buddies. I have stripped and restained a set of large oak doors (first of 3 sets) and was planning on using a good grade of exterior/spar varnish to finish them. I was completely suprised when I went to the local Sherwin Williams store and was told they no longer carry an exterior varnish....

Bandsaw's bite

1750 days ago by DataDoc | 22 comments »

No matter how careful you think you are, when you feel the thunk of the blade as it catches on the bone means it’s too late. I reached to brush away a cutoff and got my thumb snagged in the blade. With my wife’s assistance I got it bandaged up, and then sat around all afternoon holding my hand up to relieve the pounding in my thumb. Three Ibuprofen and 30 minutes later I had relief. Now all I feel is stupid.

Bathroom Progress

1751 days ago by MsDebbieP | 7 comments »

20 years ago, we put an addition onto the house. For the new bathroom/laundry room we put in a big vanity which, until this weekend, did not have the side facing the door finished. The tap that was installed needed two hands to pull up on the handle to turn it on and then you were showered with a splash of water. Well, a couple weeks ago, my daughter and I painted the bathroom which inspired the renovations to the vanity. A new tap was installed—oh yah—it sits high above the si...

Transformers' Allspark from the movie, Transformers

I’m posting this collaboration of my son and I. He saw the original prop on ebay going for over, $20,000 dollars so he decided to make his own. He didn’t have the 20 grand and Dad wasn’t paying for the one on ebay. This is what the prop looks like: His is made of 3/8” plywood. He drew and routed the design onto the plywood sides and inside bottom and colored it once it was finished. He took advantage of the knots in the plywood when designing the sides of...

"Dawning Grace" --by RusticWoodArt

1751 days ago by frank | 4 comments »

Dawning Grace ....facing the dawn, this re-curring dream, seeks to implode upon my horizontal vision, and i having only two hands start working again…. —-were it not for the silence that so surrounds me, i would be tempted to turn on a machine, since by the familiar sounds of a motors running dialogue, can the equations of wood time be speeded up somewhat…. —-but not this dawn, as my hand reaches for the broadax, this morning i will make my peace with this pi...
