I just spent the past 2 hours writing and proofreading my latest blog entry about how things are going here this week, and when I hit the “post” button, my internet had disconnected itself, and everything seems to be lost.
Ugh, everyone say with me now, “I hate dial-up internet!”
I feel better.

Mark: I found that I type in Word and then cut and past into LumberJocks. If its over a paragraph or so.
It’s a lot safer.

You should tell my wife that Karson… can’t seem to hear me say it. We both have lost more posts than we care to admit. Sometimes the rewrite is better, sometimes it’s just lost forever. It’s never fun.

I learned that the hard way to Mark. I lost a long blog entry. I do what Karson does now.

Dial-up… i hate that almost as much as I hate paint… (read Dusty’s blog)
And with the trouble I was having with my browser… I started selecting all (control + A) and copying (control + C) just in case it said “This page cannot be found”.

For you guys who live in the sticks, I suppose internet access options are limited. Before I got my current job, I paid $10/month for unlimited dial-up access. I’m fortunate enough now that my company pays for DSL. It’s not exactly free since I sometimes have to work at night from home.

Dial-up. We didn’t have any other choice up until last summer (high speed became available oh yah) and right in time for my son to move across the country.
He set up my Mac with all its little gadgets including the GarageBand. As he was doing something and my daughter-in-law was playing with the garageBand the following was recorded by accident (the first recording on my new computer and on the day of the last face-to-face contact I had with my son)..
Recording of my son: “CURSES dial-up”.

you are all correct. I have in the past hit “Copy” just before posting. I have also written in WORD, and then pasted into the blog. I also always look at the connection icon before I hit “post” to make sure I am still connected. For some reason, with my wife calling me to get off the computer, I didn’t do any of the three normal protections, and hit the “post” button. When the screen came back that the Page had Expired, and I looked and saw the connection icon was gone, I was just sick. I tried backing up, and going forward in the browser, which has saved me before, but not this time. I’ll try again. Of course, it was no short note I lost. I may break it into more than one blog entry this time (helps me stay ahead of Ethan, who has graciously waited on me the past 3 weeks).
There are three options for us for internet connection: 1) dial up to a local phone number server, 2) satellite, 3) get unlimited long distance phone service and find another ISP. We elected option #1, as it is the least expensive, still it is $19.95 a month, and that is USD, not Canadian! What would that be in Canadian Debbie, something like $75.00 per month? Ha. Probably $1.95 in Euros. I’m no financier as you can see.
My friends that gave up on dial up and went to satellite aren’t overly impressed with it either, as it goes out frequently.
thanks you all,
as Don says, give me patience!
And I’ll save my work more frequently from now on.

$75 is about right hehehee lol or it used to be anyway, not so bad these days.
I think our dial-up was about $20/month (Canadian) and the highspeed is now $30, I think.. maybe a bit more. But what a treasure it is. I refused to use anyone’s highspeed prior to me getting it. I could handle slow when that was all the options I had but I knew that it would drive me crazy if I had the pleasure of trying the “fast” connection.
Now.. I’m surfin’ on lightning speed!! :D

I pay $32 for a rate of 1.5 mbps. I wouldn’t want it any slower than that.

No, Dennis, I wasn’t talking about LJs! I’ve always had a great connection here.
I’m saying I haven’t waited on Mark for blog entries… I’ve just been overwhelmed with work at the office and getting a condo ready to sell and looking for a house/putting a contract down on a house…
I wish I had more time for blogs! I barely have time to hop on to LJ.com and make a few short quips here and there! In fact… I gotta get back to documentation. Later.
