Without a doubt, the most used/loved machine in my shop is my old reliable General 15 inch bandsaw. This particular saw is an older tool inherited from my Dad. I bought this planer about a year and a half ago and it has served me very well. The cutter head lock has pretty much eliminated snipe. The only time I get it is if I try and feed a wide board though without first jointing one face. (I know this is not the proper way, but if a board is short and wide, won’t fit on my jointer and I’m taking off 1/4” I figure I can flatten it quite well by continuously flipping it around). I purchased this sander after reading numerous other post and reviews. Several post I’ve seen talked about the tracking adjustment screw and the spring being weak with the need for constant readjustment. I have not found that to be true with mine at all. I bought this little plane mostly on a whim. I am simply amazed by how useful it has turned out to be. It is easy to use either one or two handed. It has Lee Valley quality throughout. The iron was very sharp when I got it. It has a cast iron body that just feels right. I believe the current price is about $35.00.

My new 18” 2 hp bandsaw on a mobile base.The upper wheel assembly is mounted to a channel steel support doing away with the older style castings. My main reason for getting a large bandsaw was for resawing boards up to eight inches wide. The performance I was getting from the Grizzly was less than satisfactory. Then, I was at a woodworking show, and the guy from Carter was sawing slices less than 1/8” thick, and very smooth from a chunk of walnut. This bandsaw looked really good on paper with bearing guides, 7” resaw capability, and “adjustable” fence. Well, after all that hype dissapeared, it turned out to be only a so-so machine! I am dissapointed and wished i had saved my money and bought a Jet, Rikkon, or even a Grizzly! Within 4 months of very sporadic use, one of the bearings siezed on me.
